Teaser Tuesdays (May 15)

May 15, 2012 by Darlene

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week comes from the novel I’m currently reading which is Jill Mansell’s newest called Nadia Knows Best.  As usual I’m loving her writing and storytelling.  I’ll have my review up this week!

“My sister-in-law pranged her car.  Smashed the front wing, just like you did.  She was putting her lipstick on, looking in the mirror, when some wall spitefully jumped out and ran into her.” (eBook, advance copy, final printed edition may be different)

I just love her writing and especially the British words she uses and a lot are new to me in this book.  Words like pranged have definitely made it into my vocabulary now because I just love the word itself and can’t wait to use it.  Front wing is another we don’t use her in Canada.    Let’s not forget the story too – it is really good so far but then I didn’t expect any less.  I can’t wait to get back to it whenever I put it down!

How about you?  Do you have any teaser sentences from the book you’re reading this week?  I’d love to read yours so either share yours in the comments or leave me a link to yours.  Have a great day everyone!

Teaser Tuesdays (April 19)

My teasers this week come from my current read The Uncoupling by Meg Wolitzer…

‘All over town, the spell did its work. No one knew, of course; how could they possibly have known? Even in the absence of a spell, no one ever really knew what went on in anyone else’s bed.’ (page 87, uncorrected advance copy, final printed copy may be different)

This novel is definitely intriguing and different. A spell over the town that makes all the women turn their men away. Interesting concept. I’m about a quarter of the way through so I’m still reserving an opinion but you can see what I think on Wednesday when my review goes up.

How about you – do you have any good teasers from the book you’re reading this week? Share in the comments or leave me a link to your post. Have a great day!

My teasers this week come from The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen releasing today, March 22/11. This is Sarah Addison Allen’s fourth book and I’ve been so excited to read it having read all her others. I’ve been a fan of hers since her first novel Garden Spells which I fell in love with. Here’s a few teasers…

‘Every teenager who had ever broken into the house had come away with stories of mysterious footsteps and slamming doors and a dark fedora that floated through the air, as if worn by an invisible man. Maybe that was what had always kept her from getting too close. Ghosts scared her, thanks to her grandmother.’ (page 13)

I’m not too far into the novel yet but already I’m captivated by the writing and the story. I hope to have a review for you by the end of the week. How about you – do you have any teasers this week? Share with me your link or share in the comments. Have a great day!

My teasers this week come from the book I’m currently reading called The Other Life by Ellen Meister…

“But the important part of the secret – the part that terrified and thrilled her – was that she knew it was possible to cross from one life to the other. There were portals.” (pg 5, uncorrected advance copy, final print copy may be different)

I am really enjoying this book so far – drop back on Thursday for my review. Do you have any teasers from what you’re reading this week. Share your link with me or share in the comments. Have a great day everyone!

This week by teasers come from a book called Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach…I wanted to share these because I think it’s a great start to the new year and I think it’s a beautiful quote…

‘…but time is the New Year’s bountiful blessing: three hundred sixty-five bright mornings and starlit evenings; fifty-two promising weeks; twelve transformative months full of beautiful possibilities; and four splendid seasons. A simply abundant year to be savored.’ (pg 27/28 eBook edition)

I love it! How about you – do you have any favorite teasers from a book you’re reading? Share your link or in the comments. Have a great day everyone!

My teasers this week are from The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly…

‘He’d been there again, materializing out of thin air like a guardian angel, when a group of drunken first years from Guy’s had surrounded herself and Harriet outside the school’s entrance. The men had exposed themselves, demanding to have their members examined. “Unfortunately, gentlemen, my students cannot comply with your request,” he’d said, “as they are not permitted to take their microscopes out of the building.” (Page 27, eBook edition)

I’m a few chapters into this book and enjoying it. I’m looking forward to getting more acquainted with everyone and seeing what’s going to happen.

How about you? Do you have any teasers from whatever you are reading this week? Share in the comments or leave me your link. Have a great day!
