Sundays, Spring? & Buddy, More Snow…

March 22, 2009 by Darlene

Good morning fellow bloggers. I thought I’d catch up a bit on the past week and share with you the fact that we are having a spring storm. Yup, no sign of spring here at all! In fact we are due to get, between today and tomorrow, a whopping 8 inches or more of snow. So, to battle the doldrums I am no doubt feeling from this I decided to post a picture of Buddy from a few years back enjoying his time in shade during a hot summer day. This was back before our backyard was fenced in so he had to be on a leash. He was so happy when the fence came up and he was let free to roam the whole yard.

On the reading front, March has been a good month so far. I guess partly in turn because I can’t get out and clean flower beds or gardens and such. I finished Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center and Willing Spirts by Phyllis Schieber last week for blog tours and reviews will be up this week. I really enjoyed both books. The other books I have on the go right now are…

  • Deep Dish by Mary Kay Andres which I’m reading for the chat on Wednesday, March 25 with Book Club Girl and totally enjoying.
  • Still Life by Joy Fielding which I’ve only just started but it’s already grabbed me into the story. I’m such a fan of hers.
  • Lady Anne and the Howl in the Dark by Donna Lea Simpson which I may start today if I can manage to put down Deep Dish for any length of time. lol.

This week on Friday I will be having my eye fixed up~hopefully it won’t affect my reading or blogging. Between the bad flu we’ve had in our house and just not feeling well, my eye has kept being put on the back burner and it needs to be taken care of. Other than that I hope to get lots of reading done to wrap up the end of the month in between office work, household duties and chasing the dog around.

For today, however, I’m staying IN! out of the blowing snow. I’m going to curl up with my book and my dog. Someone please tell me that spring is indeed planning to come to Alberta at some point this year! LOL (really not funny but what else is a person to do at this point). Have a great day and week everyone!

My First Blogaversary!!!

March 9, 2009 by Darlene

I just can’t believe it! Today is officially one year since I started my blog and wow has it ever come a long way! I never would have imagined anyone would be interested enough to read what I was writing about. I guess it helps that I’m writing about one of my favorite topics~BOOKS! But they are and I am so grateful to all of you who take the time to stop by, read my posts, and leave me nice comments.

One of the greatest things other than all these wonderful books I’ve gotten to read and review is all the great people I’ve met including some really great authors. I feel blessed to have come away with a few really good friends who I know I will always keep in touch with.

So Happy Blogaversary to me! And I’ll leave you all with my very first post written on March 9, 2008. As we all know, my addiction hasn’t lessened. If anything it’s gotten worse. lol…
  • Hi there, I am addicted to books! I love to read! I pretty much like all books except I’m not much for romance novels though. I love fiction for the most part and historical novels. I’ll pretty much try reading anything once. I read every chance I get even if it’s for a few minutes when I sit down in between other things. I’m running out of room to keep all my books yet keep buying more. Reading gives us a chance to escape to a different world and live a different life for a while. I love that ability to just fall into a book and so many times I’m so sad when they are over but then I pick up a new one and fall again.I hope if you visit my blog you’ll enjoy reading about the books I’ve read.

I Have No Self Control

March 1, 2009 by Darlene

I have come to the conclusion~~~although truthfully I’ve known this for a long time~~~I have no self control when I go into a bookstore.

I went today only to renew my club card at the bookstore. I had 20% off the renewal so of course I had to take advantage of that. The thing is that they know once they have me in the store they’ll make up that 20% and more because I will undoubtedly buy something.

And I did…

  • The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie (this one I will blame on Ramya at Ramya’s Bookshelf because she speaks so highly of his novels)
  • Virgin by Robin Maxwell
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (which everyone knows about and most have read except for me)
  • The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill

So, there you have it, more evidence of my addiction. LOL. Now I’m going to settle in and read some of the ones I have started for March. Oh, and I’m going to get my update for February posted. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Snow Banks and Pic of Buddy

February 27, 2009 by Darlene

We just finished getting a dump of snow the other day and finally today I was able to get a picture which you can see above. That is the snow piles in my backyard. Those paths you see are for Buddy of course. It’s funny now, he goes out and heads around the corner of the path and I can’t see him and then all of a sudden he’ll peek around the corner at me. He thinks it’s a big fun game to run around his paths. So, the snow did stop but unfortunately it’s supposed to start again on Monday. Isn’t it supposed to be getting close to spring yet???

And of course what would a post about nothing in particular be without a picture of Buddy. This is from the past summer but I love it so much. He was trying to be funny when I was planning on changing the bed. He loves to head under the sheets when I’m trying to fix up the bed and toss them around with his head. It’s pretty cute.

I ‘m just finishing up a few books too so I’ll have three reviews up by the end of tomorrow. I want them included in February’s count of books read. They were all started before I came down with that flu and I’m finally starting to get some of my reading mojo back and getting some novels done. Can you believe it’s already going to be March? I can’t, time just seems to be flying although I’m really looking forward to the warm weather of summer again.

So, that’s all for today. I’ll have a review posted up tonight for Anne Frank 10 Days. I’m just going to get started writing it. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Welcome to My Snowy World & Buddy

February 6, 2009 by Darlene

Oh my goodness!!! Take a looky at this lovely little snowstorm we are having today…It’s just one big snowy haze right now. lol.

The snow is piling up really quickly. Seem easy enough to understand that my kind of spring like weather is now over and we’re back to normal. lol. It’s a bit of a skating rink out there right now. I had Buddy out and of course he’s running around like a crazy dog in the snow and up and down the steps. Well on the last puppy olympics that he was busy performing in, he slid right off the bottom step and a little ways across the sidewalk. You had to be there—it was hilarious. Anyhow, here’s a pic of Buddy to share too-he’s not quite as covered with snow as he was a minute ago because the little bugger shook it off. He was in a hurry because he knows (as all dogs do) that when he poses for a picture a treat isn’t far behind.

So, needless to say I am staying in—no way I’m venturing out on those slikkery roads today. I’m going to do some work and then curl up with one of the many good books I have started. Have a great weekend everyone!

Buddy Relaxing, The Snow Falling

January 9, 2009 by Darlene

I thought I’d share a pic of Buddy this afternoon relaxing on the couch being the boss of the house that he is. He got about as much done today as his mommy did which wasn’t much. Isn’t he the cutest giving me that look of his that says: Mommy I’m posing nicely for this picture, now where is that treat you were mentioning? Right after the picture taking, he ran in leaps and bounds to his treat cupboard. Oh well, he deserved it, he sat so nice.

Well it’s been a day of snowin’ and blowin’ here. It’s downright cold and miserable, most definitely an Albertan winter day. The snow is really starting to pile up already and there is some more on the way tonight. It’s supposed to warm up by the weekend so I sure hope that happens. Here’s a pic of our snowy world here right now. This is a view of my front street and most of my front yard and then looking across the street. It’s kind of gloomy looking because it was snowing! It’s most definitely a winter wonderland here.
