Wednesday Book Love – A Family of Strangers by Emilie Richards

May 8, 2019 by Darlene

My pic this week is A Family of Strangers by Emilie Richards.  I’m sure I’ve read some of Emilie’s books but for some reason do not have them recorded anywhere.  Either way this one sounds like a really good story to curl up with on my reading bench outside this summer!  It releases on June 25 of this year so be sure to add it to your reading list as well!

Book Description (from Goodreads)

Could a lifetime of memories…be a lifetime of lies? All her life Ryan Gracey watched her perfect older sister from afar. Knowing she could never top Wendy’s achievements, she didn’t even try. Instead Ryan forged her own path while her family barely seemed to notice. Now Wendy shares two little girls with her perfect husband while Ryan mourns the man she lost after a nearly fatal mistake in judgment. The sisters’ choices have taken them in different directions, which is why Ryan is stunned when Wendy calls, begging for her help. There’s been a murder–and Wendy believes she’ll be wrongfully accused. While Wendy lies low, Ryan moves back to their hometown to care for the nieces she hardly knows. The sleuthing skills she’s refined as a true-crime podcaster quickly rise to the surface as she digs for answers with the help of an unexpected ally. Yet the trail of clues Wendy’s left behind lead to nothing but questions. Blood may be thicker than water, but what does Ryan owe a sister who, with every revelation, becomes more and more a stranger? Is Wendy, who always seemed so perfect, just a perfect liar–or worse?

Wednesday Book Love – Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle

April 24, 2019 by Darlene

This week my pic for Wednesday Book Love is Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle.  I read this author’s book Three Days Missing and I loved it (review once again to follow one of these days).  Needless to say I’m really looking forward to getting to this one which releases June 25 of this year!

Book Description (from Goodreads)

From the bestselling author of The Marriage Lie and Three Days Missing comes a riveting new novel of suspense about a woman who, in a fight for survival, must decide just how far she’ll go to escape the person she once loved

Beth Murphy is on the run…

For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning–one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her.

Sabine Hardison is missing…

A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.

Wednesday Book Love – The First Mistake by Sandie Jones

April 17, 2019 by Darlene

I really enjoyed The Other Woman by Sandie Jones (review to come one of these days) so when I saw she had this new one out I knew I’d be adding it to my reading list.  It releases June 11 of this year and it’s yet another of my books that I’m anxious to start!

Wednesday Book Love – Waisted by Randy Susan Meyers

April 10, 2019 by Darlene

I am a huge fan of Randy Susan Meyers. I love her writing and her stories are always great reads or listens for me. This one releases on May 21, 2019. I plan on starting it shortly!

Book Description (from Goodreads)

In this provocative, wildly entertaining, and compelling novel, seven women enrolled in an extreme weight loss documentary discover self-love and sisterhood as they enact a daring revenge against the exploitative filmmakers.

Alice and Daphne, both successful and accomplished working mothers, harbor the same secret: obsession with their weight overshadows concerns about their children, husbands, work—and everything else of importance in their lives. Scales terrify them.

Daphne, plump in a family of model-thin women, learned only slimness earns admiration at her mother’s knee. Alice, break-up skinny when she met her husband, risks losing her marriage if she keeps gaining weight.

The two women meet at Waisted. Located in a remote Vermont mansion, the program promises fast, dramatic weight loss, and Alice, Daphne, and five other women are desperate enough to leave behind their families for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The catch? They must agree to always be on camera; afterward, the world will see Waisted: The Documentary.

The women soon discover that the filmmakers have trapped them in a cruel experiment. With each pound lost, they edge deeper into obsession and instability…until they decide to take matters into their own hands.

Wednesday Book Love – American Princess by Stephanie Thornton

December 19, 2018 by Darlene

Every Wednesday I’m going to highlight a book I’m really excited about and hope you’ll pop in and tell me what you’re excited to read as well.  This week’s pick is American Princess: A Novel of First Daughter Alice Roosevelt which releases on March 12, 2019. I’ve read several of Stephanie Thornton’s novels and I love them. She has a way of telling stories that transports you to another time and place.

Goodreads Description

A sweeping novel from renowned author Stephanie Marie Thornton…

Alice may be the president’s daughter, but she’s nobody’s darling. As bold as her signature color Alice Blue, the gum-chewing, cigarette-smoking, poker-playing First Daughter discovers that the only way for a woman to stand out in Washington is to make waves–oceans of them. With the canny sophistication of the savviest politician on the Hill, Alice uses her celebrity to her advantage, testing the limits of her power and the seductive thrill of political entanglements.

But Washington, DC is rife with heartaches and betrayals, and when Alice falls hard for a smooth-talking congressman it will take everything this rebel has to emerge triumphant and claim her place as an American icon. As Alice soldiers through the devastation of two world wars and brazens out a cutting feud with her famous Roosevelt cousins, it’s no wonder everyone in the capital refers to her as the Other Washington Monument–and Alice intends to outlast them all.

Wednesday Book Love – The Glovemaker by Ann Weisgarber

December 12, 2018 by Darlene

Every Wednesday I’m going to highlight a book I’m really excited about and hope you’ll pop in and tell me what you’re excited to read as well. This week my pick us The Glovemaker by Ann Weisgarber which releases on February 5; 2019. I’ve read and loved her previous two books The Promise and The Personal History of Rachel DuPree and can’t wait to sink into her new one.  There’s two different covers out there but I’m going to go with the Goodreads one.

Goodreads Description

In the inhospitable lands of the Utah Territory, during the winter of 1888, thirty-seven-year-old Deborah Tyler waits for her husband, Samuel, to return home from his travels as a wheelwright. It is now the depths of winter, Samuel is weeks overdue, and Deborah is getting worried.

Deborah lives in Junction, a tiny town of seven Mormon families scattered along the floor of a canyon, and she earns her living by tending orchards and making work gloves. Isolated by the red-rock cliffs that surround the town, she and her neighbors live apart from the outside world, even regarded with suspicion by the Mormon faithful who question the depth of their belief.

When a desperate stranger who is pursued by a Federal Marshal shows up on her doorstep seeking refuge, it sets in motion a chain of events that will turn her life upside down. The man, a devout Mormon, is on the run from the US government, which has ruled the practice of polygamy to be a felony. Although Deborah is not devout and doesn’t subscribe to polygamy, she is distrustful of non-Mormons with their long tradition of persecuting believers of her wider faith.

But all is not what it seems, and when the Marshal is critically injured, Deborah and her husband’s best friend, Nels Anderson, are faced with life and death decisions that question their faith, humanity, and both of their futures.
