A Piece from The Year of Fog

March 18, 2008 by Darlene

I love Michelle Richmond’s description of the fog. It rings so true and just sounds beautiful to me. It really captures the essence of fog beautifully.

“the fog, its dramatic presence, the way it deadens sound. The way it simply stops, rather than fading, opaque whiteness suddently giving way to clarity. Crossing from fog into sunlight, one has the feeling of having emerged. Traveling in the other direction is like sinking into a mysterious, fairy-tale abyss”

Ditching The Gathering

March 18, 2008 by Darlene

Well I couldn’t read The Gathering by Anne Enright. I tried. I read up to pg 30 or so and had to quit. I’m just not sure the writing style was grabbing me or maybe the way the story was unfolding. Anyhow, right now I need something that I can really focus on so I’m going to leave this one.

I went and read some reviews of The Gathering and for the most part, many people’s opinions match mine. That it was hard to get into and confusing. A few abandoned it as I did. I feel better-at least it wasn’t just me.

I’ve gotten a recommendation from my fellow Pageturner Jenn to read The Year of Fog. So, I’m going to go pick it up at the library today and start that instead. Oh and I’m still going to read The Other Woman by Joy Fielding.

I’ve got The Year of Fog in my possession now and have started reading. Update to follow when I’m about halfway through.

On The Go Now

March 18, 2008 by Darlene

Well I’ve got two books on the go now. I’ll be reading The Gathering by Anne Enright and The Other Woman by Joy Fielding. I just picked them up from the library. The Other Boleyn Girl is being put on the back burner once again and it’s getting good too. I will have to fit in a chapter or so a day of it or I will begin to miss the characters.

So, I’m off to start The Gathering. I hope it’s good. I could use a distraction and a book is always a good way to escape the world for a while.

Finished Third Degree

March 18, 2008 by Darlene

I finished Third Degree last night. Great book! It kind of started off slow for me although interesting and then just grabbed me and pulled me in as so many of his books do.

This book focuses on a marriage and what happens when one partner is unfaithful. It is an emotional book and brings out emotions in those reading it. It shows us how easy it is to lose everything, including your control when you’re desperate.

As usual with Greg Iles this book was suspenseful. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan and even those who aren’t if you’re looking for a bit of a suspenseful thriller.

Reading Third Degree

March 15, 2008 by Darlene

I wouldn’t say this is one of the best I’ve read of Greg Iles but I’m enjoying it. It’s pretty good. I think it’s going to get more suspenseful as I go along just because of the type of story it is. It’s a story that so far makes me think about the dangers of having affairs when married. LOL. Well off to do more reading. I’ve got a headache but I’m hoping to still get most of the book done tonight and maybe the full review tomorrow. Just maybe…

Books and More Books

March 15, 2008 by Darlene

You know it never fails, I start reading something (The Other Boleyn Girl) which I was really enjoying and one of the numerous books I have reserved at the library comes in (Third Degree). So, once again, I have to put down Boleyn Girl to read a library book. I checked the library again and I have another hold waiting-The Gathering-so I’m going to have to go pick that up.

It’s actually quite funny because I had promised myself that I was going to hold off on reading library books and work on the enormous amount of books I own to read.

Oh well, I’m not going to give up the new releases that I don’t want to buy but want to read so, with that said, I’m off to start Third Degree.
