On the Rocks by Erin Duffy (Audiobook)

May 9, 2014 by Darlene

rocksOn the Rocks by Erin Duffy is the perfect summer read! It is a great mix of family, friendship, love in the age of modern technology, and finding and nurturing yourself through it all!

Abby is riding high on life. She’s trying on wedding dresses while her best friend Grace gets drunk on the free champagne. Abby is getting married to her long time boyfriend Ben and she couldn’t be happier. That is until Grace tells her that Ben has broken up with her on Facebook. Really??? Abby is absolutely flabbergasted and thinks that there must be some mistake… until she talks to Ben and being a single girl quickly becomes her new reality.

So Abby handles the situation much like many of us would by burying herself in several tubs of Ben and Jerry’s. Soon enough she’s looking like a total mess not to mention obsessed with stalking Ben’s Facebook page to see what he’s doing. Finally Grace has had enough and arranges for Abby to spend the summer in Newport at a beach house. Abby wants nothing to do with it but Grace can be persuasive and soon enough Abby relents.

Abby learns a lot about herself over the summer. She meets a few new friends and tries out the dating world again opening herself up to the whole bar scene and parties and all that goes with it. The thing with Abby though, is at heart, she really is an old fashioned girl. She has issues with a world where a guy checks out your Facebook page before calling you for a date. I liked Abby with her sassiness and wit and I think many women will be able to relate to that huge breakup that completely throws you off your life for a while and leaves you not fitting into your favorite pair of jeans because you’re eating everything in sight along with the joy of eventually rediscovering yourself again.

I really enjoyed this book and listening to the audio was even better. It’s narrated by Cyndi Shope and I think she did an awesome job with all of the characters and in making their personalities shine through.

Recommended for those who enjoy women’s fiction!

I’ve tried a few audio books but have been disappointed. Perhaps I’ll give this one a try as you liked the narrator.
