Would you be willing to go back in time to help or change something in the past? Well that is the question that Claudia is faced with in The Time Traveler’s Boyfriend by Annabelle Costa.
Claudia has been dating her inventor boyfriend Adam for over a year. Claudia is in her thirties and ready to settle down already. However Adam doesn’t seem to be as he hasn’t asked her to marry him or even to move in with him. Is it because of his disability that put him in a wheelchair? Or is it because he doesn’t see that kind of future with her?
When Claudia learns that Adam has invented a time machine she is shocked by his reason. He isn’t looking for world wide recognition – what he wants is for Claudia to travel back sixteen years to when he had the biking accident that put him in his wheelchair to see if she can somehow prevent it. He feels that the accident ruined his life and if it could be prevented well then, where would he be now? At first Claudia is scared of the prospect of travelling back in time. What if she ends up changing things for the worse instead of better?
When going back to stop the accident doesn’t turn out properly Claudia decides to travel back to the time when Adam meets the horrible girl that broke his heart and turned him into the commitment wary man he is today. Will she succeed in changing the way everything played out all those years ago? Will she finally have the relationship she’s always wanted with the man she loves? Moreover is it always wise to try to change the past…
Some parts of the story seem a bit far fetched but I just let myself go with it and enjoy it. A book doesn’t always have to be completely believable to be good and that’s the case with this one. The Time Traveler’s Boyfriend is about much more than just travelling back in time to change things. It’s about travelling back to learn things about yourself even more.
If you’re looking to be entertained then this book is a good pick (some sexual content for my readers who dislike that sort of thing). Time travel is always an intriguing subject and this book left me wondering what I’d think of my younger self now that I’m older and just what I’d change in my past if I had the chance.
The Time Traveler’s Boyfriend was an enjoyable read for me and would be a great pick for a hot summer day’s reading!
